Manual Therapy, Treatment for Craniomandibular Dysfunction (CMD)

The goal of manual therapy is to improve mobility in individual joints or entire areas of the body. A physiotherapist can employ a range of procedures, including gentle approaches such as mobilization and soft tissue techniques.

Treatment for craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD) is a special form of manual therapy.

CMD is the general term for a group of disorders arising from the interaction of teeth, masticatory muscles, and the temporomandibular joint.

Symptoms include joint pain (a “clicking” in the temporomandibular joints), stiff neck, headache, tinnitus, or vertigo. Secondary complications such as back pain, shoulder issues or even hip and knee pain have also been described as possible outcomes of craniomandibular disorder.

A diagnosis is made via your dentist or orthodontist.
